MLS and LIGA MX Clash: Leagues Cup 2026 Schedule Announced
The Leagues Cup 2026 is gearing up to be an exciting tournament, featuring teams from both Major League Soccer (MLS) and LIGA MX. This summer event will take place from August 4 to September 6, following the 2026 FIFA World Cup. For the first time, select matches will be held in Mexico.

The tournament includes 36 clubs, comprised of all 18 LIGA MX teams and 18 qualified MLS clubs. Here are some key facts:
- Phase One Matches: August 4 – 13
- Quarterfinals: August 25 – 27
- Semifinals: September 1 – 2
- Third-Place Match: September 6
- Final: September 6
Match Hosting in Mexico
For the inaugural Time, three of the highest-ranked LIGA MX clubs will host four Phase One matches in their respective stadiums:
- Toluca FC: 2 matches at Estadio Nemesio Díez, Toluca
- Tigres UANL: 1 match at Estadio Universitario, Nuevo León
- Club América: 1 match at Estadio Azteca, Mexico City
Match Format and Advancements
With a unique “No Ties” format, matches will go to penalty shootouts if tied after regulation. Points are awarded as follows:
- 1 point for a regulation tie
- 2 points for a penalty shootout win
- 3 points for a regulation win
The top four clubs from each league table will progress to the Quarterfinals. Tie-breakers may include goal differential.

Significance and History
This year marks the fourth edition of the Concacaf-sanctioned tournament. The top three finishers will qualify for the 2027 Concacaf Champions Cup, while the champion secures direct entry to the Round of 16.
