Len Cariou set to reprise Henry Reagan in April episode
Len Cariou, 86, will appear in an upcoming episode of boston blue, reprising his role as retired NYPD commissioner Henry Reagan. Cariou spoke on Feb. 25 (ET) at the NYC premiere of his new show, American Classic, describing the experience of filming the spin-off alongside Donnie Wahlberg, 56, who plays Henry’s grandson, Danny Reagan.
“It was fun” to film, Cariou said, adding: “It was great to see Donnie and meet the new great-grandchild, ” referencing Danny’s son Sean Reagan (Mika Amonsen). Cariou’s episode is expected to air on CBS in April.
Cariou’s appearance was previously announced publicly by Wahlberg at a Television Critics Association panel in January (ET timeframe not specified beyond the month). A representative for the series later confirmed the casting. Fans also saw a brief glimpse of Cariou in the midseason trailer: Henry is shown discussing a case with Danny, Detective Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green), and Lena’s mother, District Attorney Mae Silver (Gloria Reuben). In that scene, Henry asks, “So, what do we got?” Danny then jokes to the group, “Now you know where I got it from. ”

In Season 1, Danny’s move to Boston has placed the couple in a dynamic neither expected, with the strain of long-distance depicted and Baez making clear she does not want to leave her home.

Within the series, Danny takes a position with the Boston Police Department and is paired with Detective Lena Silver, the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family. The Silver family includes Boston District Attorney Mae Silver, Police Superintendent Sarah Silver (Maggie Lawson), rookie cop Jonah Silver (Marcus Scribner), and Reverend Edwin Peters (Ernie Hudson), a renowned Baptist pastor.
Danny has committed himself to the BPD by turning in his NYPD badge and taking on cases as a lead detective. The series also frames the move as Danny’s effort to be closer to Sean, who is a rookie with the Boston Police Department, as the two try to make a life for themselves in Boston.
