News 9 Okc: Domino’s delivery driver recounts robbery shooting as police hold one suspect and search for another
news 9 okc is focusing attention on a Domino’s delivery driver in northeast Oklahoma City who is recovering in the hospital after being shot during an armed robbery, as Oklahoma City police say one suspect is in jail and another remains unidentified.
What happened during the northeast Oklahoma City delivery?
The victim, identified as Stephen, delivers pizzas for Domino’s. He said he first tried to deliver a pizza to a home in Oklahoma City, but the people there told him they did not place an order. Stephen said he then called the customer and was directed to meet at the intersection of NE 15th Street and Irving.
Stephen said two men met him there and paid for the pizza, which made the encounter feel routine at first. Moments later, he said the situation turned violent when the men, armed with a gun, attempted to rob him. Stephen said he tried to get away and get into his car, but one of the men shot him in the back. He said the shooter grabbed his bag and both men ran off with a little more than the cash they had just paid for the pizza.
Stephen said the bag also contained miscellaneous items, including dog treats, a flashlight, and a fake wallet. He survived the shooting and is now working through what he described as a long recovery as he learns to walk again. Stephen said doctors told him the bullet remains lodged in his back because removing it would be too risky.
What is police saying about arrests and the search for a second suspect?
Oklahoma City police say an 18-year-old man, Jakobe Helms, was arrested in connection with the March 1 shooting in northeast Oklahoma City. Police said Helms was already behind bars on other crimes and remains in the Oklahoma County jail.
Police said Helms is being held on several complaints, including assault and battery with a deadly weapon and first-degree robbery. Investigators say a second suspect involved in the robbery has not yet been identified and remains at large.
