David Furnish Shares Health Update on Elton John: ‘He’s Battling On’

David Furnish recently provided an update regarding Elton John’s health, emphasizing their family’s strong bond. According to Furnish, John is “keeping busy and moving forward” despite recent health challenges.

Elton John’s Health Challenges

Elton John, the iconic “Rocket Man” singer, has faced several health issues in recent years. Most notably, he revealed in November 2024 that he lost vision in his right eye due to an infection he contracted while in the south of France. This revelation came after he shared that he has been unable to see or read for several months.

Health Journey Over the Years

  • 2021: John suffered a painful fall, which postponed several dates of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour.
  • 2024: John detailed his significant health issues during the New York Film Festival premiere of the documentary “Elton John: Never Too Late.” He humorously noted that he has undergone numerous surgeries, leaving him with very few original body parts.
  • November 2024: The singer disclosed his vision loss, stating, “I can’t see anything, I can’t read anything, I can’t watch anything.”

Furnish reassured fans in a conversation with Variety on March 10, ahead of the Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party. He spoke about the importance of family life, stating, “We really love parenting, we love our family, and we love being together.” The couple shares two sons, 15-year-old Zachary and 13-year-old Elijah.

Upcoming Events and Fundraising Efforts

Furnish also discussed the upcoming Oscar watch party, where Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka will co-host. The event aims to raise over $9 million to support the Elton John AIDS Foundation. Furnish noted the tough fundraising climate due to last year’s wildfires in California but expressed optimism about strong ticket sales and an exciting auction.

“We’re asking people to be generous,” Furnish added, highlighting the importance of the event for continued philanthropic efforts.
