James Pearce Faces Charges: Three Felonies and One Misdemeanor
Miami-Dade County state attorneys have charged NFL player James Pearce with multiple serious offenses. The charges come following a troubling incident that took place on February 7.
James Pearce’s Legal Troubles
Pearce faces three felony charges:
- Aggravated battery with a deadly weapon
- Fleeing and eluding police
- Resisting an officer with violence
In addition to these felonies, he has been charged with a misdemeanor for stalking.
Details of the Incident
The charges stem from an altercation involving Pearce’s ex-girlfriend, WNBA player Rickea Jackson. According to reports, Pearce allegedly pursued Jackson’s vehicle and attempted to collide with it while she was driving to a police station.
Jackson informed law enforcement that Pearce tried to elude police and reportedly struck an officer with his vehicle to evade arrest. In a petition submitted to the court, she accused Pearce of both verbal and physical abuse on several occasions.
Protective Measures and Ongoing Investigation
As a result of Jackson’s petition, the court issued an order of protection. A hearing to discuss a permanent order is set for April 21.
The NFL is currently reviewing this case under its Personal Conduct Policy. Despite the severity of the allegations, Pearce has not been suspended or placed on paid leave as of now.
