Ratcliffe, a key figure in the club’s management, emphasized the importance of careful consideration regarding the coaching position. He stated, “No, not going there,” when asked about offering Carrick a permanent role.

Ratcliffe had renewed Erik ten Hag’s contract after a FA Cup victory in 2024, but he was dismissed less than three months into the following season. Subsequently, Amorim was appointed, even after a disappointing 15th place finish in the Premier League and a loss in the Europa League final.
Following a challenging season start, Ratcliffe expressed his intention to give Amorim three years to establish his fitness for the role. However, Amorim was ultimately sacked in January after a brief tenure of only 14 months.
