“King of Beards Wins Title at Clayton Irish Festival Opening”

At the Clayton Irish Festival, a new champion has emerged in the beard-growing community. The prestigious title of King of Beards was awarded on Friday night to Dr. James P. Pelletier, who also secured the “Dedicated Donegal” title. This competitive event is hosted by the Sportsman’s Barber Shop and marks the beginning of a new season of beard growth that kicks off each year around New Year’s Day.

Understanding the Competition

This year, 15 competitors participated in the contest. Judging criteria included:

  • Length
  • Fullness
  • Color
  • Shine and texture
  • Style and balance
  • Authenticity of the Donegal beard

Dr. James P. Pelletier’s Reaction

Dr. Pelletier expressed surprise and excitement upon winning, stating, “I really love coming here every year.” He shared his tips for growing a great beard, emphasizing exercise and metabolic health. “Vitamins help and that’s all it takes,” he noted.

This marks the second year the Cerow Arena in Clayton has hosted the Irish Festival and beard contest. Connie Johnston, owner of Sportsman’s Barber Shop, praised the venue for its support in hosting the event. Looking ahead, there are plans to invite previous King of Beards winners to compete for “King of Kings” honors next year.

The celebrations continue throughout the weekend, featuring a variety of family-friendly activities such as food, music, cornhole, and children’s games.
