Jane Fonda Questions Barbra Streisand’s Oscars Tribute to Robert Redford

Jane Fonda has raised an eyebrow over Barbra Streisand’s tribute to Robert Redford during the recent Oscars. This moment occurred during the Academy Awards’ In Memoriam segment. Fonda expressed her surprise that Streisand, who co-starred with Redford in only one film, was the one to pay tribute.

Fonda’s Reaction to the Oscars Tribute

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party, Fonda shared her thoughts on the tribute. When asked about the In Memoriam segment, which also honored the late Diane Keaton, she responded, “I didn’t see that!” She emphasized the impact of Keaton’s passing, saying, “We lost a lot of talented people.”

Fonda then playfully questioned, “How come Streisand was up there doing that for Redford? She only made one movie with him. I made four! I have more to say.”

Remembering Robert Redford

Reflecting on her collaborations with Redford, Fonda recalled her enduring admiration for him. She stated with a laugh, “I was always in love with him.” They appeared together in four films:

  • The Chase (1960)
  • Barefoot in the Park (1967)
  • The Electric Horseman (1979)
  • Our Souls at Night (2017)

Fonda described Redford as the “most gorgeous human being” with “such great values.” She recognized his contributions to the film industry, stating, “He did a lot for movies. He really changed movies and lifted up independent movies.”

Barbra Streisand’s Tribute

At the 98th Academy Awards, Streisand honored Redford, her co-star from the iconic 1973 film, “The Way We Were.” During her tribute, she shared insights about Redford’s role. “After I read the first script of ‘The Way We Were,’ I could only imagine one man in the role and that was Robert Redford,” she noted. Streisand recounted how Redford initially declined the part, feeling the character lacked depth. “He was a brilliant, subtle actor, and we had a wonderful time playing off each other,” she added.

Tributes to Other Stars

The In Memoriam segment also paid homage to many legends, including:

  • Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner
  • Catherine O’Hara
  • Robert Duvall
  • Diana Ladd
  • Val Kilmer

The Oscars served as a reminder of the legacy left by these talented individuals in the film industry.
