Investigators said the case began on February 15 after the boy’s mother went to police with text messages she said she found between her son and the teacher. In those texts, police said Scoon allegedly discussed problems in her marriage and spoke with the child about wanting a divorce. The messages also allegedly included the two exchanging “I love yous, ” police said.
The teen reportedly told investigators that the alleged sexual abuse began to have an adverse impact on his mental health. He also allegedly said he tried ending the relationship, but that Scoon would become upset and threaten to kill herself.
The mother told authorities it seemed the abuse may have started in the fall. She said she checked her son’s phone after he began attending the church where Scoon was the youth group leader.
