highland radio — The Local Authority Waters Programme is urging Donegal photographers to enter ‘My Favourite Waterbody’, a national photography competition that opened for entries on 22 March 2026 to mark World Water Day. The contest celebrates rivers, streams, lakes and coastal waters and closes at 5pm ET on Friday 22 May 2026. Highland Radio: How to enter and what’s at stake
Entries to My Favourite Waterbody are open to anyone across Ireland and the competition explicitly welcomes submissions showcasing local waters. The closing date is 5pm ET on Friday 22 May 2026; submissions received after that time will not be considered. LAWPRO will curate a selection of the best photos for publication in its 2027 calendar, and the overall winner receives a €550 voucher for a stay at Sheen Falls Lodge, Kenmare, along with an A3 framed print. Three runners-up will also receive framed prints.
Photographers under 18 must have a parent or guardian submit their entry, and if a photo features anyone aged under 16 the entry must be submitted by that person’s parent or guardian. The competition celebrates rivers, streams, lakes and coastal waters and is intended to promote exploration and appreciation of local waterbodies.
Immediate reactions from LAWPRO
Anthony Coleman, director of Services at the Local Authority Waters Programme, said: “World Water Day on Sunday 22 March is a day that marks the importance of fresh water and the sustainable management of water resources. It is a perfect day to launch our annual national photo competition, My Favourite Waterbody. Last year, we were delighted by the public engagement in the competition, and this year we again encourage everyone to explore and appreciate their local waters, whether it’s a quiet stream, a winding river, or a favourite beach. Our natural waters are places to explore, enjoy, and connect with and LAWPRO’s photo competition is a great way for people to share their appreciation of the waterbodies that sustain and surround us. ”
highland radio readers should note that the contest is presented by LAWPRO, which works on behalf of the 31 local authorities to protect and restore water quality through catchment science and community engagement.
