John Hannah Joins Brendan Fraser in New Project

Universal Pictures is set to revive its iconic horror-adventure franchise, The Mummy, as it reunites John Hannah with Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz. This latest installment promises to bring back the excitement that fans have cherished since the original film’s release in 1999.

New Team Behind the Film

The film will be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who are known for revitalizing the Scream franchise. They gained acclaim with their releases, Scream (2022) and Scream VI (2023), as well as the acclaimed film, Ready or Not. The script has been penned by David Coggeshall, who previously worked on projects like The Family Plan and Orphan: First Kill.

Returning Cast Members

Release and Filming Plans

The new Mummy film is scheduled for release on May 19, 2028. Preparations for filming are expected to begin this fall, with locations set in London and Morocco. In addition, Universal plans to celebrate the 25th anniversary of The Mummy Returns by re-releasing it in theaters on March 27, 2026.

Production Team Behind the Scenes

Sean Daniel, who produced the original Mummy films alongside his late partner James Jacks, returns as the producer. He will be joined by William Sherak, James Vanderbilt, and Paul Neinstein, who will produce through their Project X Entertainment division. Project X has previously collaborated with Radio Silence on movies like Abigail and the Scream series. Brendan Fraser and Jason F. Brown of Hivemind are also on board as executive producers.

John Hannah’s Legacy

John Hannah is a seasoned British actor known for his roles in classics such as Four Weddings and a Funeral and the series Spartacus. His diverse career also includes appearances in Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., The Last of Us, and Black Mirror. He is represented by Artist’s Rights Group and Felker Toczek.
