Merlin has said the surgery and treatment were severe: he described missing about 45% of his insides and living with a condition called Lower Anterior Resection Syndrome for the rest of his life.
He emphasised that early medical attention mattered to his prognosis. “Pain in your stomach and changes to bowel habits can be a symptoms of bowel cancer, and the earlier it is diagnosed the better the prognosis, ” Merlin told Bowel Cancer UK.
