CBS Cancels ‘Watson’ and ‘DMV’ Shows

CBS has officially canceled two of its original series, “Watson” and “DMV,” signaling a shift in its programming strategy.

CBS Cancels ‘Watson’

“Watson” premiered in January 2025 and is concluding its second season. The drama centers on Dr. John Watson, portrayed by Morris Chestnut. The series reimagines the classic Sherlock Holmes narrative, focusing on Watson’s transition from crime-solving detective to medical investigator.

In Season 2, Watson and his group of “doc-tectives” confront their ongoing challenges. After defeating the criminal Moriarty, portrayed by Randall Park, they now focus on investigating and treating rare medical conditions for their patients. A significant twist awaits Watson in the form of Sherlock Holmes, played by Robert Carlyle, who returns after being presumed dead. This unexpected reunion forces Watson to face long-buried secrets, including a mystery linked to his own health.

Craig Sweeny created the series and serves as an executive producer, collaborating with a team that includes Morris Chestnut, Larry Teng, Shäron Moalem, Aaron Kaplan, and Brian Morewitz.

CBS Cancels ‘DMV’

The second canceled series, “DMV,” debuted in October 2025 and is wrapping up its first season. This workplace comedy is set in the East Hollywood Department of Motor Vehicles and focuses on a diverse group of characters navigating their unique roles.

  • Colette (Harriet Dyer): A driving examiner known for her compassion and questionable boundaries.
  • Gregg (Tim Meadows): A cynical former English teacher.
  • Vic (Tony Cavalero): A former bouncer with a knack for handling difficult drivers.
  • Barbara (Molly Kearney): A newly promoted manager who struggles to meet expectations.
  • Noa (Alex Tarrant): A charming surfer with aspirations beyond the DMV.
  • Ceci (Gigi Zumbado): A candid photographer unafraid to express her opinions.

“DMV” was developed by Dana Klein, who also serves as an executive producer along with Matt Kuhn, Aaron Kaplan, Wendi Trilling, and Robyn Meisinger.

The cancellation of both “Watson” and “DMV” reflects CBS’s evolving priorities as it continues to assess its lineup for future programming.
