Fire San Diego after San Marcos home blaze leaves two dead

What happened in the San Marcos fire
Deputies from the San Marcos Patrol Station responded around 11: 45 p. m. ET Saturday to the 900 block of Lacebark Street for a report of a structure fire. When they arrived, the residence was described as completely engulfed in flames.
The San Marcos Fire Department also responded and put out the fire. During operations, firefighters located two deceased individuals on the second story, in a room. Fire department officials then requested an investigation by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office.
Fire San Diego: Who is investigating, and what is known so far
The San Diego County Sheriff’s Homicide Unit and the Bomb and Arson Unit are both involved in the investigation into the incident. Sheriff’s detectives are examining the cause and origin of the fire, while homicide investigators are also working the case.
Authorities said one person was detained after the fire, and no further details were immediately available.
The Medical Examiner’s Office is expected to determine the identities of the individuals, along with the cause, manner, and cause of death. The investigation remains ongoing.
Neighbors describe the moments as the home burned
A neighbor, Matt Escalona, said he noticed a large plume of smoke when he returned home, then saw the fire intensify rapidly.
Another neighbor, Rachel Peoples, said she had not seen a fire like this in her neighborhood during the years she has lived there.
