TLC’s Chilli has found herself embroiled in political controversy following her donations to Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign. This incident coincided with the announcement of a tour featuring TLC, Salt-N-Pepa, and En Vogue, which was made during the recent iHeartRadio Music Awards.
TLC’s Chilli and the Donations
According to Federal Election Commission (FEC) records, Chilli, whose full name is Rozonda Thomas, contributed a total of $896 to Republican-linked fundraising. Her donations include:
- $210 to WinRed, a Republican fundraising platform.
- $486 to the Never Surrender super PAC.
- $200 to the Trump National Committee JFC.
Social Media Controversy
In addition to her campaign contributions, Chilli recently reshared a post from a right-wing conspiracy account that falsely claimed former First Lady Michelle Obama is a man. This post has since been removed from her social media account.
Chilli Responds to Criticism
Amid the backlash, Chilli took to Instagram to clarify her stance. She stated, “I WANT TO BE CLEAR: I am not MAGA and do not support any of the many policies that are causing great harm to the American people.” She expressed that she mistakenly believed her donations supported causes she cares about, such as human trafficking awareness and veteran support.
In her video, Chilli emphasized her respect for Michelle Obama, saying, “I would never say or do anything that is disrespectful to her or to any woman.” She explained that she inadvertently reshared the controversial post and was unaware until receiving numerous notifications from friends.
Past Political Views
This is not the first instance of Chilli expressing political viewpoints that have raised eyebrows. In 2017, she made headlines for her comments on the Black Lives Matter movement, stating that “all lives matter.” Her bandmate T-Boz, meanwhile, expressed indifference toward Trump, affirming that “God is my president.”
Despite the backlash, Chilli’s bandmates appeared supportive during this turbulent time. The recent events have ignited discussions around celebrity politics and the influence of social media on public perception.
