Houston Comets Hire Former ESPN NBA Reporter Kevin Pelton

Former ESPN NBA senior reporter Kevin Pelton has been appointed to a front office position with the WNBA’s Houston Comets. His new roles include assistant general manager and vice president of analytics.

Pelton Joins the Houston Comets

Pelton’s hiring signifies a strategic move for the Comets as they prepare for significant changes ahead. In an announcement made by the Houston Rockets, owner Tilman Fertitta is purchasing the Connecticut Sun, with plans to relocate the team to Houston for the 2027 season. The team will return to its original identity as the Comets.

Pending Approval and Transition

The sale of the Connecticut Sun is still pending approval from the WNBA’s board of governors. Pelton will work closely with the current Connecticut front office, which includes general manager Morgan Tuck and team president Jen Rizzotti. He will serve as an additional resource during the Sun’s final year in Uncasville, which is the 2026 season.

Upcoming Season Preparations

As the offseason approaches, significant activities are lined up for the franchise. In April, a two-team expansion draft and free agency will take place, involving more than 100 players. The regular season is set to begin on May 8.

Pelton’s Experience and Expertise

Pelton joined ESPN in 2013, where his expertise in basketball analytics has greatly enhanced the network’s coverage of both the NBA and WNBA. Before his time at ESPN, he worked as a consultant for the Indiana Pacers from 2010 to 2012. He also has a history of covering the Seattle Storm and the Seattle SuperSonics for their respective websites, which he held from 2002 until 2012 and 2002 until 2008, respectively.
