Disney Star Discusses Postpartum Hair Loss Struggles
Vanessa Hudgens, the renowned Disney star, recently opened up about her struggles with postpartum hair loss in an informal Instagram story. The actress, known for her role in High School Musical, shared a makeup-free video where she laughed about her hair changes following childbirth.
Struggles with Postpartum Hair Loss
In the video, the 37-year-old actress sported her long hair in a casual half-up style. She humorously referenced her hair loss, stating, “Oh cute, you got bangs? No, I’m just postpartum.” This lighthearted approach highlighted a common issue many new mothers face.
Postpartum hair loss typically occurs due to hormonal fluctuations after childbirth. According to the Cleveland Clinic, excessive shedding may begin around three months post-delivery. Fortunately, hair usually regains its normal state within 12 months.
Personal Life and Parenting
Hudgens married retired professional baseball player Cole Tucker in December 2023. The couple welcomed their first child, a son, in July 2024, followed by a daughter in November 2025. While they have chosen to keep their children’s names and photos private, Vanessa openly shares her parenting experiences online.
In early March, she posted a relatable selfie while lounging on the floor, joking about her makeup-free appearance. “Never any makeup and always on the floor,” she shared, highlighting the realities of motherhood.
Embracing Changes
According to an interview with Elle magazine in November 2025, Hudgens started noticing postpartum hair loss after giving birth to her son. She described her experience with hair shedding as “devastating,” reflecting on the impact it has had on her confidence.
Throughout her career, Hudgens has been recognized for her long, glossy hair. To manage her hair as a busy mother, she favors a slicked-back bun. “When you’re on the go, sometimes it’s hard to think about your hair,” she explained, emphasizing the need for efficiency while parenting.
Hudgens has a history with hair extensions, which she began using at 15, even while portraying Gabriella Montez in High School Musical. However, she has since moved away from extensions. “Learning how to embrace my actual texture and how to care for my hair properly has been something that I’ve really grown into as a woman,” she concluded.
