Cannes Film Festival Opens with French Film ‘La Venus Electrique’
The 79th Cannes Film Festival is set to kick off with the premiere of “La Vénus électrique” on May 12. This period comedy, directed by Pierre Salvadori, marks his 11th feature film. The film will simultaneously debut in theaters across France on the same day.

“La Vénus électrique” is set in the vibrant Roaring Twenties in Paris. Salvadori draws inspiration from classic Hollywood comedies, characterized by their swift pace and intricate storytelling. Cannes’ release notes his respect for renowned filmmakers like Ernst Lubitsch, Billy Wilder, and Blake Edwards.

The opening ceremony will be hosted by French actor Eye Haïdara and will be broadcast live on France Télévisions and Brut. This year, the festival will honor Barbra Streisand and Peter Jackson with honorary Palme d’Or awards.
Park Chan-wook, the celebrated South Korean director, will lead this year’s jury, succeeding Juliette Binoche. The complete festival lineup will be revealed on April 9 at a press conference curated by Thierry Fremaux.
