Celebrini hits 100 points: Sharks teenager joins NHL’s rarest club after three-point night
celebrini hit a milestone on Monday night (ET) in San Jose, becoming the sixth teenager in NHL history to record 100 points in a single season. The San Jose Sharks forward reached the mark during a game against the St. Louis Blues, producing three points with an assist and a goal in the first period. The push to the century mark comes as San Jose remains in surprising playoff contention for much of the season, with the teenager often carrying the load.
Milestone night in Sharks–Blues game
The 100-point moment arrived quickly: with one assist and one goal in the first period, celebrini crossed the century mark and then finished the night with three points against St. Louis. The achievement places him on an elite historical list and cements the season’s headline number—100 points—next to his name.
His season totals now stand at 38 goals and 63 assists in 72 games. The accomplishment also makes him the first teenager to reach 100 points in an NHL season since Sidney Crosby did it with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2006-07.
How rare 100 points as a teen really is
In NHL history, only a handful of teenagers have ever reached 100 points in a season. celebrini now joins a group that includes Sidney Crosby, Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Dale Hawerchuk, and Jimmy Carson. Crosby is also the only player to reach that level twice before turning 20.
The historical framing matters for San Jose, too. Only two other Sharks—Joe Thornton in 2006-07 and Erik Karlsson in 2022-23—have scored more than 100 points for the club in a single season, underscoring how unusual this scoring pace is in franchise terms.
Sharks impact: separation from the pack, and contract clock ticking
Within the Sharks lineup, the gap is stark: celebrini has scored twice as many points as the next highest Sharks player, Will Smith, who has 49. After finishing last in the NHL in 2023-24 and 2024-25, San Jose has spent much of this season in surprising playoff contention, with the teenager frequently driving the team’s offense.
There is also a calendar element to this breakout season. celebrini has one year remaining on his entry-level contract and will be eligible for an extension on July 1 (ET). The Sharks are expected to be eager to negotiate before September (ET), when a new collective bargaining agreement takes effect and limits re-signings to seven years instead of eight.
Immediate reactions and what comes next
Sharks general manager Mike Grier addressed the looming contract reality in March (ET) with a brief, pointed line. “I don’t want to think about the number, ” Grier said.
On the ice, the milestone follows a small swing in form earlier this month (ET). After a nine-game point streak to start March (ET), celebrini went through a five-game span with just one assist before breaking out Saturday (ET) in a 3-2 road win over the Columbus Blue Jackets, scoring his 36th goal and adding an assist for his 26th multi-point effort of the season.
Next up, the focus shifts from the number itself to what it sets in motion: celebrini is now firmly in a historical tier of teenage production, while San Jose balances a star-driven playoff push with the pressure of an approaching July 1 (ET) extension window and a September (ET) contract-rule deadline.
