Annecy Introduces New Batman, Looney Tunes, Ghost in the Shell Titles

Annecy Animation Festival will showcase several exciting projects this June, including new titles from beloved franchises such as Batman, Looney Tunes, and Ghost in the Shell.

Batman: Knightfall Set for World Premiere

Warner Bros. Animation, alongside DC Studios and Warner Home Entertainment, will present “Batman: Knightfall.” This film marks the beginning of a multi-part animated series based on one of the most celebrated arcs in Batman history.

Directed by Jeff Wamester, known for his work on “Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths,” this premiere will see Batman face the formidable villain Bane. As he confronts this powerful foe, the caped crusader is pushed to his mental and physical limits, drawing the interest of animation enthusiasts and Batman fans alike.

New Looney Tunes Short: Daffy Season

Another exciting addition comes in the form of “Daffy Season,” a new short from Warner Bros. Pictures Animation. This six-minute film will also have its world premiere at Annecy.

  • This fresh take on the classic manga by Masamune Shirow is directed by Mokochan, known for “Dan Da Dan” and “Scott Pilgrim Takes Off.”

The story continues to follow Motoko Kusanagi, a cyborg leading a crime-prevention unit, challenging her mission and existence. The show is set to launch in July 2026, reinforcing the franchise’s enduring appeal.

Richard Williams’ Legacy at Annecy

This year’s festival honors the late Richard Williams with a special screening of “Lysistrata,” a short animated film completed posthumously. Known for his work on “Who Framed Roger Rabbit,” Williams left an indelible mark on the animation industry.

  • “Lysistrata” depicts the women of Athens and Sparta going on a sex strike to end the war between their cities, showcasing Williams’ exceptional storytelling and animation skills.
  • The film features over 9,000 hand-drawn animation frames and includes voice work by Meera Syal as Lysistrata.

The short is produced by Williams’ widow, Imogen Sutton, and honors his legacy within the animation community.

Festival Details
