Maison Fire in Rougemont Leaves Father and 9-Year-Old Daughter Dead
A house fire in Rougemont, in the Doubs department, turned deadly overnight between Saturday and Sunday, with the alarm raised at about 3: 20 a. m. ET. A 51-year-old man and his 9-year-old daughter died after the blaze tore through the maison on rue Demeusy, in the center of the village. Fire crews rushed in with breathing apparatus, but the intensity of the fire and the unstable structure left little chance of rescue.
About 20 firefighters were mobilized at the scene after the early-morning alert, working to bring the flames under control in the dark hours of April 5 ET. The man was found first and handed over to emergency medical teams, including the Smur, but resuscitation efforts failed. A few hours later, the girl’s body was found in the debris of the destroyed maison.
Firefighters Face a Fully Engulfed Maison
When emergency crews arrived, the home was already fully engulfed. The building had burned in the heart of the night, and firefighters entered the blaze with respirators as they searched for possible victims inside.
Rescue teams first removed the male resident, identified as 51 years old, and immediately began medical treatment with the Smur. Despite those efforts, he was declared dead. The second search continued after crews suspected another person might still be inside the damaged structure.
That search ended with the discovery of the child’s body in the ruins of the maison. The girl was 9 years old. Her mother, who did not live at the property, was contacted afterward by police officers.
