Dengue is the most prominent threat in Belize. The country registered 2, 794 cases in 2025, and it had 230 cases in 2026 as of mid-March. The Aedes aegypti mosquito is a notable dengue vector, and the climate in Belize supports its spread.
There are no confirmed cases of chikungunya or Zika in 2026 so far, but both remain on the list of illnesses travelers are being told to watch for. Malaria is also being treated as an outside risk, even though the World Health Organization declared the country free of the disease in 2023.
