SAG-AFTRA Resumes April Negotiations with Studios
SAG-AFTRA is set to resume negotiations with major studios on April 27. This development comes after an early agreement reached by the Writers Guild of America (WGA). The performers’ union had previously halted talks with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) on March 15.
The initial round of negotiations lasted five weeks. Following the breakdown, SAG-AFTRA anticipated resuming talks in June after the AMPTP held discussions with the WGA and the Directors Guild of America (DGA). The recent tentative agreement made by the WGA, announced just before their contract expiration, unexpectedly opened up the AMPTP’s schedule.
SAG-AFTRA and AMPTP Negotiation Details
According to a joint statement from SAG-AFTRA and the AMPTP, formal negotiations will resume on April 27. Both parties have agreed to a media blackout during this process.

WGA Agreement Impact
The WGA’s recently announced tentative deal includes provisions to put the union’s health plan on a sustainable path. The health plan had faced challenges, accumulating $200 million in deficits over the last four years due to declining employment and rising health costs.
Prior to ratification, the boards of the WGA East and West must approve the agreement. Following this, it will be presented to the members for a vote.
