Cole Deboer and Chelsea DeBoer Reflect on Privacy After Teen Mom 2

Cole Deboer is back in the spotlight after Chelsea DeBoer said she regrets letting their children appear on Teen Mom 2. In a conversation with PauseRewind, the HGTV host said she is grateful for the privacy her current home-focused work gives their family. Her comments center on how the couple’s approach to showing their children has changed over time.

Cole Deboer enters the conversation as Chelsea rethinks reality TV

Chelsea DeBoer, 34, said she would not make the same choice now when it comes to how much of her children’s lives are shown on television. She said, “Looking back, I don’t know if I would choose that again at this point. I’m so grateful for [the show] and everything, I’m just saying, like, for our kids now. ”

That shift in perspective came as she talked about her life with Cole Deboer, 37, whom she married in 2016. Chelsea shares daughter Aubree with her ex-boyfriend, Adam Lind, and children Watson, Layne, and Walker with Cole Deboer. She said the family has become more selective about how much they share as the children get older.

Protecting the children became the priority

Chelsea said the biggest lesson she and Cole Deboer have learned is to be careful about what is shown publicly. “I think the biggest thing that we learned as we’ve gotten older and the kids have gotten older, is we really want to be selective on how we show the kids, how much we show the kids, and just really trying to protect them, ” she said.

She also described her earlier reality TV experience as chaotic and sometimes negative. In contrast, she said the environment at HGTV felt different from the start. Chelsea said she felt the network wanted the family to “look good, ” show their true personalities, and that she trusted the people involved completely.

Chelsea also said she landed the chance to become a host after sending a direct message that she quickly unsent because she felt embarrassed. She said she later wished she had kept it after the opportunity became real. She added that the message was saved and posted later, something she described as “so wild. ”

The move marked a major change from her years on Teen Mom 2, where she appeared from 2011 to 2019. Now she says the focus is on a calmer setting and a better line between public work and family life.

What it means going forward

For Cole Deboer and Chelsea DeBoer, the message is clear: the family is drawing firmer boundaries around privacy. Chelsea’s remarks suggest that any future appearances will stay selective, especially when it comes to the children.

As Chelsea continues her work on HGTV, her comments place Cole Deboer at the center of a family decision that now leans toward protection over exposure. That remains the clearest takeaway from her latest remarks about Cole Deboer and the years that came before it.
