In a heartfelt social media update, the couple revealed that Derick will soon be heading to Quantico, Virginia, to participate in Marine Corps Officer Candidate School (OCS). The post included a photo of Derick being sworn in, witnessing the occasion were their three sons. He was sworn in wearing casual attire, which included a T-shirt and jeans.
Jill expressed optimism about Derick’s future in the military, stating, “Lord willing he will commission as an officer at the end of OCS.” Afterward, he will undergo additional training before receiving an assignment as a Marine Corps Judge Advocate General (JAG) officer.
Training and Future Goals
According to the Marine Corps, OCS rigorously tests candidates’ mental and physical capabilities. The motto “Ductus Exemplo,” meaning “Lead by example,” underscores the program’s commitment to developing effective leaders.
For a long time, Derick has expressed a desire to become a JAG officer. The couple noted that he received a recruiting letter from the Marine Corps last year but decided to wait until the timing was right for their family. They began the process in early March and were pleasantly surprised by how swiftly things progressed.
Family Relocation and Support
Following Derick’s 10 weeks of training at OCS, Jill and their children will relocate to Virginia. They plan to eventually move to Rhode Island for further training. They acknowledged the challenges ahead, asking for prayers as they navigate these changes.
