Commonwealth Games 2026: Sasha Glasgow backs England call-up as Fever form rises
West Coast Fever coach Dan Ryan says Sasha Glasgow has returned to her best as a Commonwealth Games 2026 selection window sharpens. Ryan said the Australian-born shooter, who pledged her allegiance to England in 2023, is giving herself every chance after injury interrupted her international run. In Commonwealth Games 2026 terms, the timing matters: Glasgow is back in Super Netball and pushing hard with a late July campaign in view.
Ryan sees Glasgow at her sharpest
Ryan was direct about Glasgow’s form, saying she is back playing some of her best netball. He pointed to her work rate, court craft and ability to handle the hard contests, while also highlighting her threat in super shot moments and in going to post during one-point play.
“She’s certainly putting her hand up with some of the best netball she’s played for a while, ” Ryan said. “I know I would certainly be selecting her if I was the Roses coach. ”
The Fever coach also said Glasgow is thriving because she knows her role from week to week and is settled in the environment. That combination, he said, has helped her become a valuable asset during a strong start to the 2026 season.
England hopes grow as late July approaches
Glasgow has already worn England colours nine times, and the current push for Commonwealth Games 2026 selection is building around her club output. Ryan said there is added motivation across the league because of the selection carrot, but added that Glasgow’s case stands out because she is playing 60 minutes against elite defenders and contributing across multiple phases of the game.
The England pathway is also shaped by familiar faces around her. Sharni Layton, now an assistant coach at the Fever, is also an England assistant coach, while Roses captain Fran Williams is a Fever teammate. Ryan said Layton was impressed when she first saw Glasgow back in the Fever environment.
“(Sasha) is offering a lot of value and it’s great to see her just playing great netball, ” Ryan said. “I think Sharni, when she first saw Sasha come back into our environment, was super impressed at the version of Sasha that exists in the West Coast Fever colours. ”
Numbers back the resurgence
Glasgow’s statistical output underlines the case for Commonwealth Games 2026 contention. She sits fourth in the competition for goal assists with 70 and third for super shots with 16, figures that reflect both her creative influence and her finishing threat.
Those numbers sit against the backdrop of a Fever side that has started 2026 strongly, with Glasgow central to the team’s attack. The club’s form has made her one of the more closely watched players in the league as England selection edges nearer.
Next test comes fast
Glasgow now faces another immediate challenge this weekend against Firebirds defender Ruby Bakewell-Doran, who is also in strong form. Kelly Jackson will return in defence for the Firebirds after a head knock, adding another layer to the matchup.
For Glasgow, the equation is simple: keep producing at club level and make the decision harder. If her current form holds, Commonwealth Games 2026 selection will stay firmly in reach.
