Temu Range Rover breaks down after two weeks, driver demands recall
Alan Lee says his temu range rover was delivered on March 18, 2026, but within days he noticed the headlights flickering on corners and by April 2 the car had stopped suddenly on a 60mph road. The 37-year-old from Birmingham was taking his four-year-old son to nursery when the vehicle came to a complete halt and warning lights flashed across the dashboard. He is now calling for the model to be recalled and says the car is not fit for the road.
Sudden stop on a busy road
Lee had bought a Jaecoo 7 PHEX Luxury, a plug-in hybrid nicknamed the temu range rover because of its £35, 000 price tag. He said he had been drawn to the SUV after seeing positive online reviews and was persuaded by what he described as strong value for the price.
The first fault appeared soon after collection, when he noticed the headlights flickering whenever he turned a corner. He said that seemed strange at the time, but the situation became far more serious on April 2, 2026, when the car “completely stopped” as he drove along a 60mph road and turned into a roundabout.
Lee said the car “died completely, ” leaving him unable to go into drive or reverse. He called 999, and police arrived to close off the lane before the vehicle was towed to a police recovery compound, where it remains.
What Lee says needs to change
Lee, who works as an operations boss, says the incident shows customers are not being properly protected. He has argued that there should be more regulation and checks on new cars, and he wants his model recalled. In his words, some Jaecoo models have already been recalled, and his own car and others are not fit for the road.
He said he chose the vehicle because he was looking for an SUV for himself and his family, had seen a lot of good reviews, and believed the package made sense for the money. He also said the car offered more tech than some others in the same price range.
Official recall already in place for other models
Earlier this year, the UK Government recalled around 7, 500 Jaecoo 7 petrol models over a defective ECU wiring harness clip that could cause unexpected stalling. That recall does not automatically cover Lee’s Jaecoo 7 PHEX Luxury, but it has sharpened concerns around the brand’s safety record after his breakdown.
A spokesperson for Jaecoo UK said the company takes aftersales service seriously and has provided the customer with a Jaecoo courtesy car. Lee, however, says he still does not have one and does not want another vehicle from the company.
