Twins Add Royce Lewis to Injured List

The Minnesota Twins are making significant roster changes ahead of their upcoming game at Rogers Centre. Manager Derek Shelton announced that third baseman Royce Lewis and reliever Cody Laweryson are both being placed on the injured list.

Royce Lewis Injury Details

Royce Lewis has been diagnosed with a left knee sprain, which he sustained during Thursday’s victory against the Detroit Tigers. After a swinging strike in his final at-bat, Lewis was seen limping but managed to complete the plate appearance with an infield single. However, he experienced increased discomfort the following day, prompting further examination.

An imaging scan confirmed the sprain, marking Lewis’ ninth stint on the injured list in his four-year Major League Baseball (MLB) career. He has previously dealt with multiple injuries, including two torn ACLs in his right knee and various left leg issues, including hamstring strains last season. Despite these setbacks, Lewis was having a solid start to the season. He holds a batting average of .222, with eight walks and four extra-base hits, including two doubles and two home runs.

Cody Laweryson Injury Update

Cody Laweryson, the 27-year-old right-handed reliever, is also heading to the injured list with a right forearm strain. Laweryson began the season with the Twins’ Opening Day roster and had previously made five appearances as a September call-up last year. In his current season, he pitched 6 1/3 innings, yielding four runs (three earned) while striking out eight batters. He also recorded one save and one hold this year.

Projected Replacements

With both players sidelined, the Twins will announce corresponding call-ups tomorrow. Utility player Tristan Gray is expected to fill in for Lewis at third base. Gray has contributed a homer and a double in the early part of the season but has a career batting line of .220/.279/.394 over 53 games.

  • Players on the Injured List:
    • Royce Lewis – Left knee sprain
    • Cody Laweryson – Right forearm strain
  • Potential Call-ups:
    • Ryan Kreidler – Offers defensive value and is performing well in Triple-A.
    • Eric Wagaman – Also a depth infielder on the 40-man roster.
    • Zak Kent – Likely to fill Laweryson’s spot in the bullpen.

The Twins will need to adapt quickly as they navigate these injuries, focusing on maintaining their momentum this season.
