On Friday, Gainey unveiled the appointments of assistants Alvin Brooks III, Riley Collins, Matthew Driscoll, and Anthony Goins, alongside Bill Comar, who will serve as the director of operations. Gainey expressed his enthusiasm, stating that this coaching group is committed to winning and developing well-rounded student-athletes.

Assistant Coaches’ Backgrounds

  • Alvin Brooks III: Brooks joins NC State after two successful seasons as Associate Head Coach at Kentucky. He previously spent eight years at Baylor, contributing to a remarkable 194-72 record. Brooks helped the Bears secure their first national championship and produced numerous All-Americans during his tenure.
  • Riley Collins: Collins arrives from the University of Tennessee, where he contributed to four consecutive Sweet 16 appearances. His last role was as Assistant Director of Player Development, and he played a key part in guiding players to prestigious All-SEC honors.
  • Matthew Driscoll: Driscoll comes with 20 years of head coaching experience. He was the all-time winningest coach at North Florida with 274 career victories. Driscoll has earned multiple Coach of the Year accolades and led his teams to several postseason tournaments.
  • Anthony Goins: Goins recently helped Georgia reach the NCAA Tournament and aided in producing an offensive output ranked fifth nationally. Before Georgia, he contributed to Boston College’s rise in the standings over three seasons.

Director of Operations

Bill Comar joins as the director of operations, bringing extensive experience from his previous roles at Cincinnati, Ball State, and Indiana. His background includes overseeing various operational aspects of college basketball programs and contributing to several postseason appearances.

Commitment to Player Development

Gainey emphasized the importance of not just competing for championships, but also building a program centered around the growth of student-athletes. “Our focus is on developing players both on and off the court,” he remarked.

This strategic expansion aligns with NC State’s vision of creating a powerhouse basketball program committed to excellence. The new staff members are expected to bring valuable experience and expertise to help the team thrive in future competitions.
