Bryson DeChambeau Misses Masters Cut with 6-Over Round

AUGUSTA, Ga. — Bryson DeChambeau’s hopes of competing this weekend at the 90th Masters were dashed as he finished the tournament with a six-over-par score of 150. Needing only a bogey on the 18th hole to make the cut, DeChambeau’s attempt ended in disaster with a triple-bogey 7.

Bryson DeChambeau’s Performance

The 32-year-old golfer entered the final hole at three over par, having recorded four birdies and three bogeys during his second round. His initial round was challenging, with a score of 4-over 76.

Challenges on the 18th Hole

On the 18th tee, DeChambeau hit a 287-yard drive into the trees on the right. His ball landed under a magnolia tree, forcing him to punch it down the fairway, only for it to end up in a greenside bunker. The situation worsened when his third shot failed to clear the lip of the bunker, rolling back toward his feet.

  • DeChambeau struggled with his fourth shot, which ended up back on the fairway.
  • He then chipped 12 feet past the hole on his fifth shot.
  • His attempt to make a double-bogey putt fell short, finishing just a foot from the hole.

This unfortunate ending eliminated any chance of him securing his first green jacket.

Recent Performance and Popularity

Before the Masters, DeChambeau had finished in the top ten in the past two tournaments, including a tie for fifth place last year, where he played in the final group with winner Rory McIlroy. His recent victories in the LIV Golf League also contributed to expectations of a strong showing at Augusta.

Other Notable Misses

DeChambeau was not alone in missing the 36-hole cut. Other notable golfers included:

  • Bubba Watson – 5 over
  • J.J. Spaun – 5 over
  • Zach Johnson – 6 over
  • Akshay Bhatia – 6 over
  • Robert MacIntyre – 7 over
  • Cameron Smith – 7 over
  • Min Woo Lee – 11 over

The 90th Masters will proceed without these prominent players, highlighting the unpredictable nature of tournament play at Augusta National.
