LA Officials Ensure ‘Baywatch’ Preservation in Venice
Local officials in Los Angeles are taking proactive steps to ensure the “Baywatch” reboot remains in Venice Beach. This commitment follows reports of the production potentially relocating outside the area. On Friday, LA County Supervisor Lindsey Horvath convened with city officials and production leaders at Fox Studios to discuss various challenges impacting filming.
Commitment to ‘Baywatch’ Production
Los Angeles City Councilwoman Traci Park confirmed that the show would not leave Venice. “The city, county, and production team are deeply committed to the success of this marquee effort,” Park stated. The officials expressed excitement about meeting the production’s needs along the coast.
Filming will continue through July, aided by a substantial $21.1 million tax credit from the California Film Commission. Horvath emphasized the importance of “Baywatch” to Los Angeles, stating it sustains the local economy and bolsters the city’s reputation in the entertainment industry.
Addressing Production Challenges
The meeting focused on addressing key logistical issues, including:
- Flexible production hours
- Expanded parking options
- A dedicated on-set liaison
These adjustments aim to enhance future productions and smooth out the current filming process.
Series Details and Character Insights
The revamped “Baywatch” features Hobie Buchannon, portrayed by Stephen Amell, who steps into the role of Baywatch Captain. This character was originally depicted by David Hasselhoff. Hobie’s life takes a turn when Charlie, played by Jessica Belkin, arrives, eager to join the lifeguard legacy.
The series received a 12-episode straight-to-series order in September. It has been in development at Fox since early 2024.
Officials affirm that keeping “Baywatch” in Venice Beach is crucial for both the production and the community. The collaborative efforts of the city and production team are set to create an environment conducive to successful filmmaking.
