Top QB Target Commits to Michigan Football’s 2027 Class

Michigan Football has made a significant addition to its 2027 recruiting class by securing a commitment from quarterback Kamden Lopati. The four-star prospect from West Valley City, Utah, announced his decision to join the Wolverines after decommitting from Illinois.

Commitment Details

Lopati’s commitment to Michigan comes after a strong connection with the coaching staff, including head coach Kyle Whittingham and offensive coordinators Jason Beck and Koy Detmer Jr. This bond began when the coaches were at Utah, making Michigan a top contender for his recruitment.

Earlier this offseason, Michigan was the first to offer Lopati after Peter Bourque decommitted in February. Other prominent programs that showed interest in him included Notre Dame, California, and Duke. Following a recent visit to Notre Dame, the Fighting Irish appeared to be a frontrunner. However, Michigan regained momentum during Lopati’s multi-day visit to Ann Arbor in early April.

Upcoming Visits and Other Recruits

Lopati is scheduled to take an official visit to Michigan on June 19, coinciding with Victor’s Weekend, a notable recruiting event.

The Wolverines’ 2027 recruiting class also includes:

  • Recarder Kitchen – Four-star edge rusher
  • Darrell Mattison – Four-star safety
  • Sydney Rouleau – Three-star offensive lineman
  • Maxwell Miles – Three-star safety
  • Louis Esposito – Three-star offensive lineman

Lopati’s High School Performance

Standing at 6 feet 2 inches and weighing 225 pounds, Kamden Lopati is recognized as the No. 115 overall prospect nationally and the No. 2 player in Utah, according to Rivals. ESPN ranks him as the top quarterback in the 2027 class.

In his junior season, Lopati showcased his skills by completing 114 of 176 passes for a remarkable 2,671 yards, with 34 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He also rushed 90 times for an impressive 730 yards, scoring an additional 10 touchdowns.

With Lopati’s arrival, Michigan Football strengthens its position for the future, aiming for success in the upcoming seasons.
