Billy Crystal eyes return to Broadway with 860 after losing his home

billy crystal is set to return to Broadway this fall with a new one-man show built around the Los Angeles home his family lost in the Palisades fires. The production, titled 860, will begin previews in October at a theater to be announced later, with Scott Ellis directing. The show centers on the longtime house Crystal and his family lived in for 46 years.

860 brings Billy Crystal back to Broadway

The show takes its title from the street address of the family home that was destroyed in the wildfires. Crystal said that he is inviting audiences inside 860 to hear “funny and touching things” that happened there, both in his career and in family life. He described the project as a “joyous and heartfelt visit, ” and framed it as a story about getting through hard times with family, friends, and inner strength.

This will be Crystal’s first Broadway return since Mr. Saturday Night, which he premiered in 2022 and which earned Tony nominations for best book and lead actor in a musical. The new show continues a line of personal stage work that has defined key moments in his career, and billy crystal is again leaning into autobiography for a live audience.

How the fires shaped the story

The Palisades and Eaton fires erupted on Jan. 7, 2025, killing 31 people and destroying about 13, 000 homes and other residential properties, with cleanup taking about seven months. Crystal said he returned to the wreckage of his home and broke down, later recalling that his daughters found a rock in the debris engraved with the word “Laughter. ”

At the FireAid fundraising concert at the end of January 2025, Crystal appeared as the first host wearing the same clothes he had on when he fled his home. That moment, along with his account of the loss, now sits at the center of 860.

Crystal’s Broadway path before 860

Crystal has had success with one-man shows before. His memoir 700 Sundays became a stage show in 2004 and returned in 2013, earning him a Drama Desk Award in 2005. He later brought Mr. Saturday Night to Broadway after its earlier life as a film he directed, co-wrote, and starred in.

In his statement, Crystal said he looks forward to welcoming audiences to 860 and to sharing the home’s memories. The production team lists Janice Crystal, James L. Nederlander, Larry Magid, and Face Productions, while additional creative team members have not yet been announced.

What comes next

The theater for the Broadway run has not yet been revealed, but previews are scheduled to start in October. With that timeline now set, billy crystal is preparing to turn a personal loss into a live theatrical event that puts family memory, resilience, and recovery at the center of the stage.
