Cardinals’ Jacoby Brissett Misses Offseason Training Program
Arizona Cardinals quarterback Jacoby Brissett has missed the beginning of the team’s offseason training program. His absence is due to ongoing negotiations for a new contract, sources reported on Friday.
Contract Situation of Jacoby Brissett
Brissett served as the starting quarterback for the Cardinals during 12 games last season, filling in for the injured Kyler Murray. He is currently slated to earn a base salary of $4.88 million in 2026, but only $1.5 million of that amount is guaranteed. Additionally, Brissett can earn bonuses that include:
- $510,000 in active roster bonuses
- $50,000 workout bonus
- $2 million in performance incentives
Team Dynamics and New Additions
In March, the Cardinals signed quarterback Gardner Minshew, who has a guaranteed contract of $5.14 million for this season. Although Brissett is the incumbent starter, reports suggest that he has not been officially informed of his status for 2026 following Murray’s release.
Future Uncertainty for the Quarterback Position
During Arizona’s recent predraft press conference, general manager Monti Ossenfort and new head coach Mike LaFleur did not confirm who would be the starting quarterback. Ossenfort stated, “We’re not really naming anybody, and we’ll see how that room looks by the time we get [to] August.” LaFleur emphasized the team’s focus on establishing a foundational system, remarking that discussions about specific player roles have not yet begun.
As the offseason progresses, Brissett’s situation remains fluid. The Cardinals are reportedly open to negotiating a new deal, which could significantly impact the quarterback landscape in Arizona heading into the new season.
