2026 NFL Draft: A.J. Brown Skips Eagles Workouts; Giants Unlikely to Trade Thibodeaux
The trade rumors surrounding Kayvon Thibodeaux, the New York Giants’ promising pass rusher, have diminished following recent developments. After the Giants traded defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence to the Cincinnati Bengals, it appears the team is less inclined to deal Thibodeaux, who is gearing up to play the 2026 season on his fifth-year option.
Giants’ 2026 Draft Strategy
Current reports suggest that teams had previously expressed interest in acquiring Thibodeaux. However, the Giants would require a significant return for parting with their first-round talent. According to NFL Network Insider Mike Garafolo, the right price would be crucial for any trade discussions.
Following the trade of Lawrence, New York now holds two first-round picks in the 2026 NFL Draft. Their selections are at:
- No. 5 overall
- No. 10 overall (acquired from Cincinnati)
Thibodeaux’s Performance and Future
Thibodeaux, selected as the No. 5 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, has played in 68 regular-season games and started in 53. However, his performance in 2025 was below expectations, recording only 2.5 sacks in 10 games.
Despite the trade rumors, Giants general manager Joe Schoen expressed optimism about Thibodeaux’s future. He stated at the NFL Scouting Combine in February that he anticipates significant contributions from the young pass rusher in his fifth season.
Additionally, new head coach John Harbaugh commented on Thibodeaux, acknowledging that while “everybody’s tradeable,” he is energized about coaching him. Harbaugh highlighted Thibodeaux’s physical condition, stating, “He looks great, he’s in great shape.” He is focused on integrating Thibodeaux into the team’s defensive schemes moving forward.
