Lufthansa Flights Cancelled as Jet Fuel Costs Surge

The airline said the first 120 daily cancellations were already implemented and will remain in place through the end of May. It also said some of the route changes could become permanent, while a fuller update on the revised schedule will come later in April.
Among the temporary suspensions are flights to and from Heringsdorf, Cork, Gdańsk, Ljubljana, Rijeka, Sibiu, Stuttgart, Trondheim, Tivat, and Wrocław. Lufthansa also said routes from Frankfurt to Bydgoszcz, Rzeszów, and Stavanger have been removed from the current schedule.
Why the Cuts Are Happening
The airline linked the decision to sharply higher jet fuel prices tied to the Iran conflict, which has disrupted production and transport across the Middle East. It said the Gulf remains a major source of aviation fuel for Europe, with much of that supply moving through the Strait of Hormuz.
That route has been effectively closed in response to US and Israeli attacks, adding pressure to an already strained market. Lufthansa also said fuel supply for the coming weeks remains secured, and that it is using physical procurement and price hedging for the summer timetable.
Passenger Impact and Rebooking Plans
Passengers affected by the cancellations will either receive refunds or, where possible, be rebooked on flights operated by SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, or ITA Airways. Lufthansa said its broader long-haul network will remain available, even as it trims less profitable short-haul services.
