The moment Kenyon Sadiq received the call from Jets general manager Darren Mougey was marked by palpable emotion. Initially skeptical about the authenticity of the call, Sadiq expressed, “I was thinking this was going to be a prank call.” Mougey assured him, “You’re gonna come here and be a weapon for us,” further emphasizing the team’s excitement.

Head coach Aaron Glenn joined the conversation, expressing confidence in Sadiq’s abilities. He stated, “Listen, we’re gonna bring you up here, and you’re gonna be a huge weapon for us.” Woody Johnson, the Jets owner, echoed this excitement, as he conveyed that offensive coordinator Frank Reich was “jumping up and down” over the selection, citing it as “the best move” for both parties involved.

Kenyon Sadiq’s Impressive Credentials

During his last season at Oregon, Sadiq demonstrated exceptional skill on the field. He recorded 51 receptions for 560 yards, along with eight touchdowns. His performance earned him recognition as a second-team All-American. Adding to his credentials, the 6-foot-3, 241-pound athlete clocked a remarkable 4.39-second time in the 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine.

Jets’ Successful Draft Night

The Jets had a successful first round of the draft, which took place in Pittsburgh. In addition to selecting Sadiq, they chose Texas Tech edge rusher David Bailey with the No. 2 overall pick. Later, they made a strategic move to trade back into the first round, acquiring Indiana wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. with the No. 30 pick.
