Donnie Wahlberg Sacrifices Half Salary to Shoot Boston Blue Locally
Donnie Wahlberg recently revealed his determination to film “Boston Blue” in his hometown, sacrificing half of his salary to make it possible. However, despite his efforts, production economics led the series to be shot primarily in Toronto.
Wahlberg’s Commitment to Authenticity
During an interview on SiriusXM’s Radio Andy, Wahlberg discussed his wish to keep the spinoff true to its Boston roots. The series follows his character, Danny Reagan, from the well-known “Blue Bloods.” Initially, he was thrilled about the opportunity, expressing excitement about a Boston setting.
Challenges of Filming in Boston
Wahlberg stated that the producers informed him early on about the impracticality of filming in Boston due to financial constraints. He initially believed that filming in his hometown would enhance the authenticity of the series. However, the producers insisted that Toronto was a more cost-effective option.
- Wahlberg offered to return 50% of his salary to secure filming in Boston.
- Producers emphasized that even a 100% salary cut wouldn’t make filming feasible.
- Logistical issues, such as crowds and tourist disruptions, complicate Boston shoots.
Despite these challenges, “Boston Blue” has already been renewed for a second season. The first season is currently available for streaming on Paramount+.
