Gabe Jacas Emulates Former Patriots Star in His Game Strategy

Gabe Jacas, a promising edge rusher, joined the New England Patriots as a second-round selection in the 2026 NFL Draft. He was picked 55th overall, and his game strategy is heavily influenced by former Patriots star Matthew Judon.

Modeling Game Strategy After Matthew Judon

During his introductory media call, Jacas stated that he sees significant similarities between his playing style and that of Judon. He emphasized his desire to improve continuously and emulate Judon’s speed and power techniques.

“There are so many similarities to my game and his, and I can’t wait to just continue to get better as an edge rusher,” Jacas said.

Judon’s Career and Influence

Matthew Judon began his NFL career as a fifth-round draft pick in Baltimore. He joined the Patriots as a free agent in 2021 and earned Pro Bowl nominations in each of his healthy seasons. Unfortunately, Judon missed most of the 2023 season due to injury and was later traded to Atlanta.

  • Judon’s notable achievements include:
  • Multiple Pro Bowl nominations.
  • Influential role in developing edge rushers through his collaboration with skill development director Joe Kim.

Coaching Impact of Joe Kim

Joe Kim, who worked extensively with Judon, left the Patriots after the 2024 season, moving to Illinois. He subsequently trained Jacas, who achieved career highs during his senior year in 2025, with 11 sacks and 13.5 tackles for loss.

Jacas credited Kim for instilling effective hand usage and focused attacking strategies. He recalled Kim’s advice, saying, “Just attacking the tackle, don’t go around them… stay on your track and go right through them.”

A Bright Future for Jacas

Now part of the Patriots, Jacas is determined to carry forward the legacy of impactful edge rushing exemplified by Judon. If he can deliver a performance akin to Judon’s, the Patriots can feel optimistic about their future investment in this talented player.
