Diego Pavia Secures Next Step in NFL Career Post-Draft

Diego Pavia, a promising quarterback, has taken a significant step in his NFL career by accepting an invitation to the Baltimore Ravens’ minicamp. After going undrafted in the 2026 NFL Draft, Pavia will join the Ravens’ rookie minicamp scheduled for May 2.

Diego Pavia’s Journey to the NFL

Hailing from Albuquerque, New Mexico, Pavia’s path has been anything but conventional. He was a standout three-sport athlete at Volcano Vista High School, excelling in football, baseball, and wrestling. Despite leading his football team to an impressive 11–0 record in his senior year and scoring 23 total touchdowns, he did not receive any Division I scholarship offers for football, only partial offers for wrestling.

College Career

Pavia took his talents to the junior college ranks, committing to the New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI). Here, he played two seasons, starting 21 games and achieving a 16–5 record, with 31 touchdown passes to just four interceptions. His significant contributions helped NMMI clinch the 2021 NJCAA championship.

After showcasing his skills, Pavia transferred to New Mexico State, where he started 23 games over two seasons. He tallied 52 touchdowns and led the Aggies to a notable victory over Auburn in 2023. Following his time at New Mexico State, he moved to Vanderbilt University, where he celebrated a remarkable 2025 season, setting career-highs with 3,539 passing yards and 29 touchdown passes. His performance earned him a place as a Heisman Trophy finalist.

Heisman Trophy Controversy

Although Pavia finished second in the Heisman race behind Fernando Mendoza, his reaction garnered attention. He initially expressed frustration over his placement, followed by an apology acknowledging the honor of being a finalist and regretting his remarks. He emphasized his competitive nature and the emotional response that followed.

Ravens Minicamp and the Road Ahead

Joining the Ravens, who currently have two quarterbacks on their roster, Pavia aims to demonstrate his ability to contribute to the team’s offense. During an interview, he expressed excitement about opportunities to play a versatile role, similar to Taysom Hill in New Orleans. Pavia is determined to embrace any role that helps his team win.
