South Wales crews tackle Port Talbot Fire on Dock Road

Emergency services were called earlier today to a port talbot fire on Dock Road, where witnesses saw thick black smoke rise over the town and out toward Mumbles. Police said they received multiple reports of a significant blaze, and fire crews were sent to the scene.

The smoke was visible from as far away as Mumbles, giving a wider area an immediate view of the incident. Residents living nearby were told to keep their windows and doors closed because of the heavy smoke.

Dock Road response

South Wales Fire Service crews were among those responding, while several Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service crews were also sent to the incident at Dock Road in Port Talbot. The response centered on getting resources into the area as the fire continued to send smoke into the sky.

Police urged the public to avoid the area and to seek alternative routes where possible. Drivers were also asked for patience while the incident was being dealt with, a sign that access around Dock Road remained restricted while emergency crews worked.

Mumbles smoke view

The sight of smoke from Mumbles showed how far the blaze was visible beyond the immediate street where it started. For people nearby, the practical advice was direct: stay indoors with windows and doors shut, and keep clear of the roads used by emergency services.

The live response now depends on crews working through the fire on Dock Road and keeping the surrounding area open enough for access. Anyone in the vicinity has been told to use another route if they can and to leave space for the emergency response already under way.
