Garrett Crochet Lands on 15-Day IL, Red Sox - Blue Jays Watch
The Boston Red Sox put Garrett Crochet on the 15-day injured list with left shoulder inflammation and recalled Nate Eaton from Triple-A Worcester before red sox - blue jays could move on to the next roster look. The left-hander is now sidelined for at least 15 days, and Boston has to cover a rotation spot after getting him for a six-year, $170 million deal less than a year ago.
Crochet’s Latest Turn
Crochet’s year has been uneven. He has a 6.30 ERA through six starts in 2026, far from the line that made him last year’s AL Cy Young Award runner-up after an 18-5 season with a 2.59 ERA.
That split is the backdrop for the move. He followed a six-shutout-inning, seven-strikeout outing in a 17-1 win at Baltimore with an 11-run collapse over 1 2/3 innings at Minnesota on April 13, a stretch that showed both ends of his range before the injury decision arrived.
Nate Eaton Returns
Eaton comes up from Worcester as the short-term answer. He was hitting.292 with three homers and 12 RBIs in 27 games at Triple-A, and he already has major league time with Boston after appearing in 41 games for the club last season.
The utilityman also brings a different profile than Crochet’s missing innings. He played for Kansas City in 2022 and 2023, and his recall gives Boston a movable piece while the staff reshapes the roster around one unavailable starter.
Boston’s Rotation Window
The injury move lands in the middle of a larger shakeup. Boston fired manager Alex Cora and five coaches following Saturday’s game, so the club is already handling one roster decision on top of a coaching overhaul.
For now, the direct consequence is simple: Crochet is out, Eaton is in, and Boston has to cover the gap while its most expensive arm is shelved on the 15-day injured list. The next roster choices will say more about how the Red Sox want to handle the rotation than about the injury line itself.
