Michael Cusack New Netflix Show Orders Dad's House to Debut
Netflix has set michael cusack new netflix show Dad's House to debut on the platform. The adult animated series comes from Michael Cusack, Dario Russo and David Ashby, three creators with a track record in offbeat comedy. For Netflix, it adds another adult animated title to a lineup that already includes several established names.
Michael Cusack and Netflix
Cusack serves as showrunner and executive producer on Dad's House, and he also leads the voice cast. Russo and Ashby join him in those roles, with Felicity Ward also in the cast. That gives Netflix a project built around the same creative circle that helped define Smiling Friends, Danger 5 and Italian Spiderman.
Dad's House is set in suburban Australia and centers on 13-year-old Sean, who spends every other weekend with his dad Ian after his parents' divorce. Ian wants to make the most of that time, but he has a knack for complicating things. That setup points the show toward family friction rather than broad nostalgia, which should keep it closer to Cusack's sharper animated instincts than to a simple domestic comedy.
Danger 5 and Italian Spiderman
Russo and Ashby bring more than a title credit. They co-created Danger 5 and were also behind Italian Spiderman, so Netflix is not just buying a new series, it is buying a specific comic voice with a built-in history. Felicity Ward adds another recognizable performer, having starred in the Australian version of The Office.
The timing also gives the new series an extra layer. In February, Cusack and Zach Hadel posted a video saying, "I think that could just be it after season three." He later explained, "We just came to this feeling where we’re like, ‘I think that could just be it after season three.’ We both felt like it was right." Smiling Friends debuted in 2022, and last year the series was picked up for seasons four and five.
Princess Pictures and Bento Box
Dad's House hails from Princess Pictures and Bento Box Entertainment, which places it inside a production pipeline built for adult animation rather than one-off experimentation. Netflix already has adult animated comedies such as Haunted Hotel, Long Story Short, Big Mouth and BoJack Horseman, with Mating Season, Dang! and Alley Cats on the horizon.
That makes Dad's House less a lone bet than part of a broader inventory strategy. The practical read for viewers is simple: Netflix is continuing to stock multiple adult animated comedies at once, and Cusack's next series arrives with a creator team that already knows how to work that lane. The question now is whether Dad's House can turn that creative overlap into the kind of audience momentum that keeps an animated title in rotation.
