Jasson Dominguez Leaves Game After 89.1-MPH Eovaldi Cutter

jasson dominguez left Wednesday’s game against the Texas Rangers after taking an 89.1-mph cutter off his left elbow in the fourth inning. He was in only his third game of the season and had been handling a larger role for the Yankees.

Domínguez Hits The Ground

Domínguez was struck by Nathan Eovaldi’s cutter in the fourth inning and initially stayed in long enough to take first base. Head athletic trainer Tim Lentych checked him on the field, then the Yankees pulled him from defense for Max Schuemann in the bottom half of the inning.

The injury arrived while Domínguez was being used as the club’s primary DH after the team recalled him to replace the injured Giancarlo Stanton. He also got a start in left field so Aaron Judge could serve as the designated hitter.

Yankees Shuffle The Roster

The same day, the Yankees designated Randal Grichuk for assignment and recalled rookie Elmer Rodríguez for the start. That move left the roster more fluid before Domínguez took the pitch off his elbow, and it gives the club a possible back-pocket option if he needs an injured list stint.

Grichuk could technically be added back if he clears waivers, though that is not guaranteed to be the route the Yankees take. For now, the immediate issue is Domínguez’s availability after an injury that interrupted his third game of the season.
