Andy Hart and Nick Fitzy Stevens let go as 98.5 reshuffle hits WEEI

WEEI let go Andy Hart and Nick "Fitzy" Stevens on Wednesday morning, cutting two voices from its 2-6 p.m. afternoon-drive show as the station keeps trying to fix a slot that has lagged behind 98.5. Ted Johnson will remain with the station in an undefined role, and WEEI will reveal the new lineup Monday morning at 9 on "The Greg Hill Show."

WEEI Afternoons and 98.5

WEEI Afternoons tied for 14th in the fall Nielsen Audio ratings with a 2.0 share, while Felger and Mazz finished first with a 16.7 share. In the winter ratings period from Jan. 8-April 1, WEEI stayed 14th with a 2.7 share, and Felger and Mazz led again with a 15.3 share. That gap has kept the afternoon window under pressure even as the station cycled through host combinations since July 2018.

Hart, Stevens and Johnson joined the afternoon program together in August 2024 and January 2025, but the arrangement did not hold for long. Hart and Stevens had been with WEEI since 2019, yet the station moved on from both just as it prepares to reset the show again.

Vrabel and Russini clip

Last week, a clip went viral of Stevens disagreeing with Johnson about the situation involving Patriots coach Mike Vrabel and reporter Dianna Russini. Hart and Stevens had already been critical of Vrabel, and a source involved in the process dismissed speculation that the Patriots played a role in the shakeup as "some Grade A [expletive]."

The criticism created a public flash point, but the ratings show a separate problem: the afternoon show has not been close to the top of the market. Even after the latest staffing changes in August 2024 and January 2025, WEEI could not close the distance in the 2-6 p.m. slot.

Monday at 9 on Greg Hill

Monday morning at 9, WEEI will put the next lineup on the air on "The Greg Hill Show," and Johnson’s role will be clarified there. For listeners in afternoon drive, the practical takeaway is simple: the show they heard last week is gone, and the station is betting another reset can finally move a slot that has spent years chasing 98.5 instead of setting the pace.
