Landry Postpones LIV Golf Louisiana, Eyes Fall Date — Liv Golf Funding
LIV Golf Louisiana was postponed on April 28, 2026, and the event had been set to begin June 25. In a statement, Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry and economic development secretary Susan Bourgeois said they were working on a fall date as liv golf funding questions circled the league.
About $7 million had been earmarked by Louisiana to bring the tournament to New Orleans, including about $2 million to improve Bayou Oaks at City Park and another $5 million in hosting fees. Only a little more than $3 million had been spent, and LIV Golf is set to return $1.2 million to the state.
Landry, Bourgeois and O’Neil
Jeff Landry and Susan Bourgeois said they looked forward to keeping the partnership alive while continuing conversations around an event later this year. The league’s chief executive, Scott O’Neil, had told staff on April 15 that LIV Golf was “fully funded and continuing on “exactly as planned, uninterrupted and at full throttle.”
That message came after multiple media outlets reported earlier in April 2026 that Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund was set to withdraw its investment in LIV Golf. LIV Golf still held its Mexico City event earlier in April as scheduled, but the New Orleans stop was among five U.S. events on the calendar this season.
Fall Date and Course Conditions
Officials said the target was a re-envisioned fall event, with the shift intended to avoid World Cup viewership and heat challenges while giving the course time to be in appropriate condition. A source with knowledge of LIV Golf’s operations said the league was working with Louisiana officials to find that fall date.
For Louisiana, the postponement turns a planned showcase into a narrower bill: less cash out the door now, a refund of $1.2 million, and a chance to reset the event before more money is committed. LIV Golf next plays at President Donald Trump’s Virginia golf course on May 7, 2026, before ending its season with the team championship in Michigan from Aug. 27-30, 2026.
New Orleans Event Costs
LIV Golf started in 2022 and has struggled to gain traction despite signing players including Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm and Phil Mickelson. The New Orleans cancellation shows how quickly those funding questions reached the event level, even after the league pressed ahead with its Mexico City stop.
For fans, sponsors and vendors tied to Bayou Oaks at City Park, the immediate question is no longer whether June 25 happens, but what the fall version looks like and how much of the original plan survives the rescheduling.
