The result mattered because Utah had won the previous two games entering Game 4, and a 3-1 series lead would have put the Mammoth in a position that historically produces a series win 91 percent of the time. Vegas needed the response to regain home ice advantage, and it got it in the most direct way possible: a road overtime winner from Theodore.
For the Mammoth, the loss stops the chance to move within one win of the series. For Vegas, the return trip starts with a split instead of a hole, and the series is back to level after a game that hinged on one review, one overturned goal, and one overtime finish.
