Lawrence Butler Posts 47 wRC+ Amid 2026 Slump

Lawrence Butler’s 47 wRC+ in 95 plate appearances has pushed his early 2026 line down to.186/.263/.279, a sharp follow-up to a 2025 dip that already cut into his 2024 breakout. The Athletics outfielder is still being viewed through that 2024 ceiling, and the recommendation is patience rather than panic.

Butler’s 2024 Breakout

Butler set the standard in 2024 with 22 home runs, 18 stolen bases and a 130 wRC+ season. He also trimmed his strikeout rate to 23.9%, a useful baseline now that the bat has stalled across two straight seasons.

That earlier production is the reason the 2025 and 2026 results stand out. In 2025, his strikeout rate climbed to 28.4% and his wRC+ slid to 96, leaving him well short of the level he reached the year before.

Pitcher List On Lawrence Butler

The early 2026 line is even lighter: a.186/.263/.279 slash with a 26.3% strikeout rate and a 9.5% walk rate over 95 plate appearances. The walk rate is closer to his better work than the strikeout spike suggests, which is part of why the projection does not swing all the way to the bottom.

Pitcher List’s verdict was patience, mostly. It pointed to Butler’s plus bat speed as a 25-year-old and noted that his 11.9% swinging strike rate suggests the strikeouts could come down a few points.

Fly Balls And Pull-Air

The complication is in the batted-ball shape. Pitcher List said a season somewhere between 2024 and 2025 is probable if Butler can improve his fly ball and pull-air rates, and it also described those declines as somewhat disturbing trends.

For fantasy managers, that leaves Butler in a hold pattern rather than a drop-the-name cycle. His 47 wRC+ in 95 plate appearances is ugly, but the 2024 power-speed ceiling, the 2024 strikeout rate, and the swinging-strike mark give him a path back to something closer to the middle ground between his breakout and his slump.
