Howden Scores In Double Overtime As Golden Knights Vs Mammoth Goes 4-3
The golden knights vs mammoth series swung to Vegas on Wednesday night when Brett Howden scored in double overtime to seal a 4-3 win at T-Mobile Arena. The Golden Knights now lead the playoff series 3-2 after taking their second straight overtime game.
Pavel Dorofeyev’s Hat Trick
Pavel Dorofeyev finished with the first playoff hat trick of his career, and his third goal came with 52 seconds remaining in regulation to force the extra period. He also tied the game 2-2 late in the second period after Utah had built an early lead.
That rally kept Vegas alive after Utah kept answering back. John Marino opened the scoring late in the first period for Utah, Lawson Crouse made it 2-2 midway through the second period, and Dylan Guenther tied it 3-3 midway through the third.
Lead Changes At T-Mobile Arena
Shea Theodore put Vegas ahead 3-2 late in the second period, but Utah reclaimed control when Carcone scored with just over seven minutes to play. The Mammoth looked ready to take the game until Dorofeyev found the tying goal in the final minute of regulation.
In double overtime, MacKenzie Weegar turned the puck over to Jack Eichel for a breakaway, and Karel Vejmelka made the stop. On the next Utah turnover, Vejmelka could not keep out Howden’s shot, and Vegas had the winner.
Game 6 In Salt Lake City
The result sends the series back to Salt Lake City for Game 6 on Friday, with Vegas one win from advancing. Utah has already dropped two straight overtime decisions in the series, and the Golden Knights continue to lean on a power play that had outperformed Utah’s by a good margin while John Tortorella kept adjusting his units.
