Leah Williamson Set to Renew Arsenal Deal After 20-Year Stay

leah williamson is set to sign a new contract at Arsenal, extending a 20-year stay that began long before she became the Lionesses captain. Her current deal was set to expire in just a few weeks' time, and the move keeps one of Arsenal's most important defenders tied to the club.

Williamson And Arsenal

Williamson has been at Arsenal for 20 years, a run that now looks set to continue after a stop-start stretch shaped by injuries. She was sidelined until December after sustaining a knee problem while leading England to glory at last summer's European Championships, then picked up a calf issue in January.

She recently returned from a hamstring problem and played in Arsenal's Champions League semi-final first leg win over Lyon last weekend. That appearance mattered because it showed she was back in the frame at the sharp end of the season, with Arsenal still dealing with several senior contract decisions across the squad.

Arsenal Contract Moves

The club has already moved on a series of renewals. Kim Little signed a new one-year agreement in March, Stina Blackstenius put pen-to-paper on a new deal last week, and Steph Catley's renewed terms were announced on Tuesday morning.

Manuela Zinsberger will leave Arsenal when her contract expires in the summer. There is still no official news on Katie McCabe, Beth Mead, Victoria Pelova, Caitlin Foord or Laia Codina, and those five players are also set to become free agents in just a few weeks' time.

For Arsenal, Williamson's renewal keeps a senior defensive leader in place while the rest of the summer picture is still taking shape. Her return against Lyon and this new deal point to a player the club still sees as central, even after a year that included a knee problem, a calf issue and a hamstring setback.
